Artist's Statement:
Painting my ideas onto canvas and molding clay into figurines are two activities that make me feel unbelievably wonderful. I especially love creating in color.
While I am working on a painting or a clay project, I am immersed in a sense of elation. When I have completed a canvas or a clay project to my satisfaction, I am euphoric.
To be truthful, the paintings on my walls are at my mercy because when I have paint left over after finishing a new painting, I stroll through the rooms of my home to see where I might add a stroke or two of wet paint to improve upon what I thought I had already completed.
Sometimes, when I experience a touch of sadness or loneliness, I can look at my artwork which sits on my tables and hangs on my walls, and my sense of sorrow and loneliness evaporates. My art does please me.
Just gazing at my artwork fills me with happiness, and I hope other people who see and own my work will feel that way, too. I wish I could make everyone feel the peace and joy I feel when I look at my art. Those are feelings I am trying to convey.
To me, art is more important than food and drink. In fact, creating works which I consider to be beautiful is what keeps me alive and young and aware. Life without a taste of beauty would be a dull and uninteresting life, a sad life.
In a poem which I wrote and dedicated to God, the greatest artist of us all, I refer to the beauty of some of His creations: the petals of a rose, the wings of a butterfly, the constant flux of a heavenly cloud, even a tiny cell in a living body....beauty, beauty, everywhere.
The world is full of beauty; it is God-made and it is man-made. It is in our arts and our sciences. Man creates gardens and paintings and books and progeny and smiles and acts of charity and kindness. We are all creators, artists. Whatever a person accomplishes that makes her satisfied and euphoric is her art, and as artists we know the euphoria of creating something beautiful, but even as an audience marveling at the creations of others, we can experience the ecstasy of beauty.
